Elevate Your Success (Notes and Summary)

Today, I will be writing about a book that had a profound impact on my life. I first read Elevate Your Success by Benjamin J. Harvey in December 2021, and it completely changed the way I view the world.

At the time, 2021 had been one of the most challenging years of my life. However, at the start of 2022, I began applying the lessons from the book. Before the new year, I created a list of everything and everyone I was grateful for, and I reached out to each person to express my appreciation.

The results were significant. 2022 became one of the best years of my life.

Elevate Your Success explores key ideas such as maintaining a positive mindset, practising gratitude, prioritising self-care, setting clear goals, managing time effectively, building strong relationships, and taking action. I strongly recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their life.

Below are some notes I took while reading the book.

Elevate Your Success

Let’s start with my favourite quote from this book:

“Success is a process, not an outcome. To be successful, you must learn to take small actions that build momentum over time, and then continually refine those actions until each one is completed at a world class level.”

“Then all you need is to possess until attitude. This means you persist with taking small actions and refining them every step of the way until you get there.

  • Benjamin J Harvey

Some key points from Elevate Your Success:

Public speaking to a live audience:

  • builds trust with people quickly

  • Leverage time by speaking to large numbers at once

  • Having their full attention

  • Gaining immediate feedback from the expressions on their faces while you’re presenting.

  • Transferring emotion and inspiring people to take action

  • Being able to let them experience your style of education firsthand, which is like giving them a test drive of your products and services before make a decision to buy.

You get a really good feeling in your heart knowing you’ve inspired someone to live an empowered life.

  • Structure to presentation is critical.

  • Feelings build, curioosity awakened and a feeling of inspiration infused into their bodies when they see a presenter sharing their message. Gain knowledge and laugh from time to time.

  • Intuitive speaker = practise within a structure to present in a way that inspires people to make action.

THE PRESENTERS PRO FORMULA

Phase 1: Orchestrate your outcome

Start with asking this. At the end of my presentation, what specific action do I want my audience to take? Begin with the end in mind.

E.g.

  • commit to mediate daily

  • Set goals

  • Call a friend to tell them about the workshop

  • Sign up for workshop

  • Fill in details for complimentary workshop

  • Create savings plan

  • Invest

  • Sign a deal

Everything in the talk is now designed to assist the audience in making a decision on the end. ask yourself “How does this bit of content move my audience to making that decision?”

Purpose of new education = action. Clarify action before all.

Phase 2: craft your presentation

3 core stages. Better at communication.

  1. Connect. Start of presentation, connect with each individual with use of the word you. Speak as if you’re speaking directly to each individual and make them feel it.

2. Demonstrate. Prove why they should take new actions. How it will solve their problems.

Phase 3: Embody your message

With Memory strategies. Memory is like a muscle. The more you work it, the better it becomes.

Can’t rely too much on technology these days. Hence it is beneficial to learn to present with nothing but yourself on stage. Technology is a bonus. They come to see you speak, learn something and to be entertained, not slides on a screen.

3 memory techniques.

Photographic memory technique.

Putting a movie of the content you want to cover and play the movie on your mind when you get up on stage.

The pegging technique. You mentally “peg” content around the room in a specific order.

The acronym technique.

Break down content to where each letter had a spectate point.

Put faith in memory, google techniques.

Phase 4: Own the stage

Master outcome at the beginning and learn how to craft it correctly. Memorise message and learn to own the stage.

Owning stage = Be graceful in delivery.

“grace is the removal of all unnecessary movement.”

Remove all movements that don’t serve a purpose.

Dancers perform the precise steps required. Allow your body to naturally flow with how to message wants to come out.

Technical:

Body postures, satir categories created by Virginia satir

Stage anchoring to elicit emotions and time

Mimed models and diagrams

The Book “Kinesics and context” by Ray L Birdwhistell studies human body and interpersonal communication.

Communication requires use of all senses. Words having the smallest percentage of importance in the exchange.

Communication = 3 aspects :

7 percent words

38 percent tonality

55 percent physiology

93% of your message is not what is said but how it is conveyed.

The best speakers are okay with being themselves. Be authentic on stage, so the audience connects. When sharing a message, open your heart and let people in.

Orchestrate outcome, craft presentation, embody message and own the stage. Surrender and allow natural light to shine through your words, resulting in captivating hearts.

Phase 5: Manage the business model

Important steps to becoming a professional speaker:

  • knowing how to attract the right people in your community

  • Being able to fill rooms with an audience that wants to hear your message

  • Creating desirable packages that solve the problems of audience members

  • Ensuring you design a solid message to market matches when seeking to build your brand

The same reason they come to see you speak is the exact same reason they will buy.

Walk in the audience’s shoes before they arrive. Focus finer points on exactly why they came to see the presentation, and connect deeply with everyone in the room.

Bored with life and feel unfulfilled, solve challenging problems in your life and others. You get the most fulfilment out of that.

When you solve problems for others, they show appreciation in the form of money. More appreciation = more money. Solve as many problems as you can. Speaking allows to solve in a leveraged way, due to the number of people that you can reach at the same time.

  1. Prosper with happy clients

Inspire clients to buy.

Every time you make a sale, you’re improving someone’s life.

Selling should be based on a genuine desire to help make a difference in a persons life.

Educational based selling. People want to know you genuinely care about them.

Key issues you to need to solve to succeed in business that helps improve quality of life:

  • Productivity and systems

  • mindset

  • Packaging and marketing (end to end business lifecycle)

  • Presenting from the stage

  • Education based selling

Looking after cash flow, being wise with spending and keeping a cash cushion allows to capitalise opportunities as they arrive and maintain success for any new growth venture.

Here’s are some good practises for success - visualisation, crystal healing, hypnosis, sage smudging, meditation.

The most Powerful practise is writing.

Write down all the reasons you deserve success. Write 100-200 reasons non stop and get in the flow. Start with this. Write 20 reasons why you deserve to earn money from what you’re passionate about. This process fires and wires your thinking cells (neurons). Change your beliefs at a subconscious level.

Practise authentic appreciation. Have an attitude of gratitude. Set aside of minutes every day and imagine what you appreciate in life. Surrender into that subtle sensation of appreciation. Cognitive bias. You unconsciously sort for what you appreciate and end up discovering more to be grateful for. your mind sets a new set of rules and biases.

“What you focus on, expands.” the more you appreciate in life, the more you get to appreciate.

Life rewards action.

“The best way to succeed is to discover what you love and find a way to offer it to others in the form of service.”

Oprah Winfrey

“We are visitors on this planet. We are here for 90 or hundred years or so, and during that period we must try to do something good, something useful, with our lives. If you can contribute to other peoples happiness, you will find true goal, the true meaning of life.”

His Holiness l, the fourteenth Dailai Lama: the true meaning of life

  • When things get hard, search deep within to find the strength that’s always been there for you.

  • Trust your own judgment.

  • Become best friends with yourself.

  • If you seek answers you already have them.

You have the potential to be your own worst enemy or the master of your destiny. People will try to steer you away from your dreams. Act generously but only listen to the voice deep within you.

Set unrealistic and ridiculous goals, focussing only on the end result with an unwavering resolve. If you Fall short of your goals, then celebrate your achievements. As you look back, you will see how far you’ve come and how far behind people who set realistic goals are.

  • Embrace every challenge as an opportunity you need to grow.

  • Everything is perfect

  • Forgiveness will set you free but will take longer to master

  • Spend time on your own every day

  • You only have to work on yourself

  • Look in the mirror and learn to love everything that looks back at you.

People subordinate by putting others values before their own and then allow their days to fill up with low priority tasks as opposed to high priority ones. Education and application are needed to deal with this.

Identify set values and fulfill them from a place of self-love.

In “How to Find What You Love to Do and Gey Paid to Do It!” by Benjamin J Harvey, refer to the Chapter “Shadow Values” for a full depth analysis.

  • Put yourself first. Not selfish but in a non negative way.

  • To truly help others, you need to be the best version of yourselves.

  • When a student is ready, the teacher appears.

    Mistakes people make:

    1. Thinking every detail needs to be perfect before starting.

    2. Listening to everyone else’s advice about how they should run their business.

When an opportunity knocks, sometimes you only have a small window of time to act.

Show courage and the rewards are waiting for you on the other side. Universe is constantly offering up opportunity. Will you notice?

Business Tips:

Produce in volume without compromising integrity

Research about the product and know it well

Take initiative and project

Instead of making every detail like the logo perfect before starting, have a good product, improve in the area of retail branding.

Find a Name, logo and branding.

Get someone to help with home-printed labels and Graphic design

Eventually elevate on a more commercial level.

Build administration with office management and accounts payable/receivable.

Start with Computer Office Program - search templates to create basic sales invoices.

The state government business website has a lot of info on requirements for business set up and structure, registration, ABN or to register for GST. Contact details will be available too.
