TAKEE: SVC President Pitch
I’m Takee, a Trimester 6 Music student in Melbourne, finishing my studies this trimester. Having been part of the SRC in 2022/2023 and actively advocating for its return, I’m absolutely thrilled to see it coming back.
I’m not running for president just to be a voice on the council, I’m also running to inspire others, be a good role model and to bring true market positioning and strategic governance to our student experience.
The Challenge We Face
Right now, there is a massive awareness gap at JMC. We also have a critical issue with student retention. My goal is to implement strategies that actually help more of us complete our degrees, transforming students into notable alumni equipped with the tools to succeed and elevate the global JMC brand.
My Experience: The Reality of Retention
I have navigated the full spectrum of the student experience, including periods of significant challenge. I know what it is like to hit a wall, fail classes, step away, and ultimately drop out. But choosing to come back, rebuild, and successfully finish my degree gave me a firsthand, undeniable understanding of student retention and engagement.
I will leverage this deep-rooted perspective to ensure our strategic decisions are as fiercely human as they are data-driven. Additionally, as a current Student Ambassador and student mentor, I have a unique 'on-the-ground' data set. I have direct visibility into the student experience across multiple campuses, providing real-time insights that traditional market research often misses.
What I Bring to the Academic Board
To ensure all three campuses are represented with actual leverage, I bring real-world assets and board-level experience:
Industry Integration:
I currently work in A&R for Atom Marketing, Voyager, FROMM Consulting, and Emerald Order (an upcoming Warner Music Group subsidiary launching in Nashville in January 2027). I know exactly what the global market demands of emerging professionals.
Operational Leadership:
As a co-op shareholder and board member at ConFest, I have evaluated high-stakes financial data and managed six-figure event budgets, using those insights to optimize sustainable outcomes.
Strategic Planning:
I was recently selected by Kate Duncan (CEO of The Push) for a specialized industry workshop, receiving an honorarium for collaborating with established leaders to shape The Push’s 10-year strategic direction.
Governance & Media:
I serve on the Port Phillip Youth Advisory Committee and recently wrapped up as Executive Producer for SYN Media's flagship radio show, The Hoist.
My passion to contribute to JMC is rooted in a simple goal: making sure this institution works for us. Let's close the gap between the classroom and the industry.
I would be honored to have your vote for President this Wednesday at 12:00 PM via Teams (though I will be advocating strongly for an in-person meeting as well).
Feel free to say hi if you see me in the halls. Always happy to grab a coffee!
